Installation of battered piles and poured-in-place concrete caps is a very common approach in South Florida to raise the existing seawalls. However, what is often being neglected in this method is the uplift force of the battered piles. If not countered by a new vertical pile to hold the cap in place, we will witness failures like the one in the picture above.
